Sunday mornings usually spent with a dear friend…

If you can’t be there—you can eat there!

A journey’s recipe:

Smother crispy, chewy, yeasty, toasty bagels in the bliss of guilty pleasure that is cream cheese and then nestle in wispy curls of paper thin sweet red onion, generously punctuate with polka dots of smoky, briny capers and then luxuriate with opalescent slabs of creamy, salty Scottish-style smoked salmon.

One small, sweet tomato sliced pole to pole into quarters and then half again—kissed with freshly cracked sea salt and black pepper to finish.

Suddenly, I’m transported to warmth and welcome of the teeny tiny dining room at the Machipongo Trading Company across the table from my dear friend, Mina Savage Turner.

In just one bite—I’m on the Eastern Shore of Virginia

In just one bite…I am home.
